Ecotourism has two vocations: it has an educative and awareness building value, but it also generates revenue. Thus it contributes to the running costs of the management of the protected area, while at the same time contributing to the development of the local and national economy.

In the different ECOFAC projects, the possibility of viewing rare and spectacular species such as the gorilla of the forest elephant gives these sites a real potential for international tourism.

In collaboration with the private sector, ECOFAC is supporting the development of ecotourism by developing circuits and wildlife attractions, creating the infrastructures, acquiring equipment, , training personnel etc…

Four protected areas have been developed for ecotourism:

Lopé National Park (Gabon)
Obo National Park (São Tomé)
Odzala Kokoua National Park (Congo-Brazzaville)
Monte Alen National Park (Equatorial Guinea)

The different destinations are commercialised by tour operators with whom ECOFAC has established partnership agreements.
