he Mikongo Conservation Centre is located in the Lopé national park, deep in the equatorial rainforest of central Gabon. We provide visitors with a unique and unforgettable wildlife experience as part our active conservation and research projects.

Our goal is to create incentive to preserve Gabon's forest through the promotion of exclusive eco-tourism, which generates important revenues for local conservation and communities.  More broadly, this will help demonstrate that the management of protected areas in Central Africa can actually be self-sustainable.

isitors to
Mikongo travel to the remote heart of Gabon, Central Africa, and into some of most bio-diverse tropical forest remaining on Earth. Gabon has high numbers of primate and other mammal species (notably, Lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, mandrills, forest elephants, leopard and antelope) and is a birder's paradise. The forest itself is majestic and tranquil, and many superb pristine rivers flow beneath the rich canopy.

Visitors can track primates and other mammals with ex-hunters, search for some of the rarest birds in the world, and float along the magical Offoué River in a dug-out canoe through spectacular cloud forest.

After an initial night at the picturesque Lopé Hotel, clients visit our two separate encampments which offer comfortable traditional-style facilities in a beautiful remote forest setting.

At the
Mikongo Camp, clients join local trackers in search for forest animals with a focus on primates and birds.

At the
Ololo River Camp, a two-hour 4x4 transfer away, clients have the option of a forest walk (birds are plentiful and sightings of the rare Sun-tailed Guenon and Black Colobus are possible), followed by a spectacular day-long descent of the Offuée River in a pirogue, the next morning. The jungle scenery is breath-taking, and the trip affords more opportunity to view Gabon's rich wildlife.
